Project Brief: Echoes of Identity
In my latest documentary, Echoes of Identity, I aimed to challenge traditional stereotypes about how boys and girls experience and express emotions and mental health. This film features interviews with students, a tutor, a social media expert, and a psychologist, offering a comprehensive view of the cultural, educational, and societal impacts on emotional well-being.
Through these interviews, we explore how societal expectations shape the emotional landscapes of boys and girls. The film follows a student’s personal journey in breaking free from gender norms, supported by expert insights on the psychology and physiology of emotion and gender. Echoes of Identity underscores the need for more openness and support in allowing boys and girls to develop emotionally without restrictive gender constraints, promoting improved mental health and empathy across genders and generations.
As the director, cinematographer, and editor of this documentary, supported by my assistants Mubarak and Amal, I aimed to create a powerful narrative that fosters empathy and challenges societal norms, paving the way for a more inclusive approach to mental health.
